10 Cheap Spring Date Ideas

Spring time in California has been exceptionally exciting this year! We have been getting more rain than we have in years, which is allowing spring time to be all the more beautiful! Not only are we getting a large amount of rain, we are getting perfect 75 degree days in between. Everywhere I look I see flowers of every color sprouting up all over the place. It is beyond gorgeous!!

The spring is my favorite time to get out of the house and enjoy some dates with my hubby! The weather is warm but not too hot, the birds are singing all day long, and my mood tends to improve with the sunshine.

Here is my list of 10 date ideas for you and your spouse to try this spring. Most of these dates involve outdoor adventures because… who wants to be inside when the weather is as beautiful as it has been lately?!

1. Picnic in the Wildflowers

Of course this would be number one choice because there is something so freeing and joyful about being amongst the wildflowers. There may not be too many wildflowers near you but honestly it is so worth the drive/trip to wherever may be closest to you. Pack a game or two, a picnic, a blanket, and a camera to spend hours watching the flowers sway in the breeze and the sun begin to set. As you watch the sunset on the surrounding mountains you can snuggle up together with some fancy cheese, crackers, and a bottle of wine.

2. Go for a hike

Spring time is, in my opinion, the absolute best time to go for a hike. My hubby and I always try to find new hikes that we can go on to see what kind of view we can get. During the spring, the mountains are green and everything is blossoming so grab your allergy pill (if you’re like me), a hydration pack, and hit the trail!

3. Plant a Garden

Weather you are a “green thumb” or not planting a garden is so much fun. Head to your nearest garden store so you and your sweetie can choose which flowers you want and go from there. You can place pots full of gorgeous flowers on your apartment patio or if you’re lucky, create a flower bed in your back yard!

 4. Head up to the Snow

Sounds a little bit strange because going to the snow when there is beautiful spring weather at home seems a little crazy. But Spring time is the perfect time to see fluffy white snow surrounding you yet feel the sun shining on your faces to keep you warm. At the end of the day find a fireplace to snuggle up next to and enjoy your favorite hot drink!

5. Go to the Drive In

If you do not have a Drive In movie theater in your town then you must find the one nearest you! The spring is great because the weather is just warm enough that you won’t completely freeze as the sun goes down with the hatch back or window open. Pack up every single blanket and pillow in the house, pop some popcorn, and grab your snacks then you are set for the coziest movie ever.  This is a must-do this spring!

6. Game night at the park

Yahtzee, Farkle, Bananagrams, and even WAR are just some of the many games you can play with two people.  As the weather is getting nicer and the nights are staying brighter you can head over to your local park with snacks and a few games to have a nice little date after work. It gets you out of the house and you get to enjoy spending time kicking each others butts in your favorite games!

7. Watching the sunset

If you live by the beach then this needs to be your go to date night when you are just itching to get out of the house. It is so peaceful getting to sit on the beach with your toes in the sand, listening to the waves crash on the shore as you talk about all the things in your day that soon seem so insignificant compared to the vastness of the ocean. If you don’t have a beach nearby, you can find somewhere beautiful to watch the sun go down; On top of a hill, in your backyard, or even at your local park. You still get that peaceful feeling of ending the day together and starting your evening as a couple.

8. Have a BBQ (with S’mores)

Not much beats getting to stand next to the warm fire on a cool spring night watching some burgers, chicken, or if we are lucky, Steak roasting on the BBQ. When dinner is done, keep that fire going for some delicious s’more roasting! It truly gets you feeling nostalgic over the summer time that is fast approaching…or maybe not fast enough!

9. Read a book with flashlights in a storm

In California we have been getting a lot of rain and wind this year! It is very strange because California doesn’t usually get this much rain! I get stuck on what to do with my husband because I feel trapped in the house so we end up just watching tv or a movie. I decided to switch things up and pretend our lights are all out, light the candles, turn on the flashlights, and snuggle up in a blanket to read a good book. This is our calm in the midst of a storm.

10. Have a photo shoot

Spring time brings beautiful green hills and wildflowers that have popped up everywhere I look. It creates the perfect spring time back drop! Grab a camera with a timer and tripod then pull over wherever you might see a field of wildflowers or pretty green grass. Not only is it fun to dance around and make fun poses, you get to go home and laugh/enjoy all the photos you took!

I always wish Spring time would start in January because I’m just waiting for the winter chill to go away but when it does come we try to get outside as much as possible! There is just something so wonderful about feeling the sun shining on your face and the birds chirping you a song while you walk or hike. I hope these date ideas help you and your sweetie to get out and enjoy the spring time weather!

I would love to hear suggestions from you on some spring time date ideas! My husband and I are always looking for new things to do/try!
