My Schedule as a Stay-At-Home Wife

Have you ever wondered what the modern day stay-at-home wife does?

In today’s world it can be hard to make it (financially) without both the husband and wife working, but with the amazing online resources we have now it is possible for one spouse to stay home and work on blogging, free lancing, and many more possibilities!

As for me, I recently became a stay-at-home blogging wife and it has been quite the transition. It can be hard to stay motivated, especially at the beginning, but overall it has been a great experience so far. It did take some time trying to get in the rhythm of things, but finding a schedule has been crucial in keeping me from going crazy staying at home all day!

One of things that can make anxiety worse is being cooped up in the house all day. Without the demands of being at a job at a set time, I find myself taking my mornings slow and feeling tired the rest of the day. It only took a couple of days for me to realize that something had to change. I needed a way to stay mentally and physically healthy while working as a full time blogger.

So whether you have kids or not I hope these tips are helpful to you!

Sleeping in always sounds so glamorous but in all honesty I think we know that it really just makes us feel lazy (at least it does for me). I have realized that I need to get up and get going first thing in the morning so that I don’t spend the whole day feeling tired. So here are some things I do to brighten up my morning routine.

When my husband is up then I’m up. My rule is: I have to be out of bed by the time he is out of the shower.

Exercise. I really enjoy my evening walks with my hubby so I try not to exercise too much to the point of not having any energy by the time he gets home. A little walk around our local lake park does the trick for me to get out of the house first thing in the morning and get me moving. If I am feeling a little too sleepy to go for a walk then even just grabbing my yoga mat and doing some yoga will give me that morning boost of energy!

Get ready for the day. As a stay-at-home wife or mom it can be easy to want to lounge around in our sweats and t-shirts all day, but I find I am much more productive when I dress for success. Then when my husband gets home from work, I look presentable and not like I just rolled out of bed ten minutes ago!

By the time it is the afternoon I’m ready to put some fuel in my body and get going on my work! Here is what my afternoon typically looks like:

I make lunch. Sometimes just for me and sometimes if I am lucky for my husband as well! I like to spend time making something yummy but also nutritious!

Depending on the day I split up chores and work. Some days I:

Go straight to blogging. I will edit, write, or change things around for hours without even noticing how much time has passed.

Clean the house. There are a couple of days a week where after lunch I will get all the cleaning done. This helps me to keep from worrying about it while I am trying to get work done on the blog. This is also the time I will go to the grocery store if needed!

I usually will blog full time Monday, Wednesday, and Friday then clean and run errands on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

By the time 4:30 or so rolls around I will usually want to get dinner ready and get the house ready for my hubby before he gets home so that when he does, we can just relax or go do something without having to worry about cooking or cleaning. My evening usually consists of:

Cook dinner. Now don’t get me wrong… There are a plenty of days where I wait until my husband is home to start cooking, but I try to have that done or at least in the process before he gets home.

Pick up the house. During the day I can be busy trying to get a blog post up or finish editing something and I won’t realize I left a trail of snacks and random junk behind me. So taking a few minutes to get things picked up will help you enjoy your evening with your hubby.

Go for a walk/run/gym. When my husband has been sitting around at work all day by the time he gets home he is ready to go do some exercise. This is a great time to connect and talk about your day during a walk or allow him to get work stress out during a run so he is refreshed by the time you two sit down to relax for the evening.

This has been a great schedule for me and keeps me feeling productive and I don’t end up being the lazy stay-at-home wife.

I want to leave you with one more tip because I believe it is super important in order for you to keep from going stir crazy in your house!

Extra Tip

Get out of the house to blog. Weather you blog or not, whatever project or program you work on, get out of the house to do it. Pick a quite coffee shop, library, or even a park table to sit down for a couple of hours and do your work. (I can get distracted when I am out of the house but I have found that when I use my headphones and listen to some calming music, it really helps me focus.) I get so cooped up when I am at my house all day so this is the perfect way to keep me from rushing my hubby out of the house as soon as he gets there. You can spend just two to three hours out of the house and it will help you to be able to relax by the time you are home!
